Give Where You Live

Katherine’s Story of Support

I was first introduced to Room in the Inn (and the wonderful folks who run it) during my time as a student at Memphis Theological Seminary, during which I occasionally volunteered with RITI downtown or as a host with the Congregational Shelter program. Then in January of this year, I had the opportunity to tour RITI’s Ayers campus and spend a few hours volunteering… By the end of my shift, I knew I wanted to extend recurring financial support to Room in the Inn – Memphis, specifically for these three reasons:

1. I believe in the mission. RITI extends safe shelter and holy hospitality to those experiencing homelessness—an increasingly vital mission in a time when neighbors across the nation are being criminalized simply for being unhoused. For those wondering, “What can we do?”, showing sustained support to organizations doing the work of caring is a great place to start (or continue!).

2. I want to give where I live. RITI Memphis is practicing holy hospitality and making a lasting impact right here in our backyard—from overnight shelter provided in concert with local faith communities to long-term housing support for families and medically fragile individuals. RITI’s investment in Memphis makes investing in RITI a no-brainer.

3. It’s easy. Super easy, in fact. Simply choose a giving amount that makes sense for your budget, mark your donation as a monthly gift, and you’re all done—but the hope and healing you’ll support is just beginning.

Peace be with you,
Katherine Whitfield Baker
