Making Room in 2024

Jan 10, 2024

A new year brings a new focus to our monthly updates.

Last year, we took a deep dive into RITI’s core values.

This year, we’ll explore all the ways we seek to MAKE ROOM together.

We invite you to engage with us on social media to share your own stories of making room.

Do you have a ritual of starting a new year with resolutions? Or setting a word/phrase of intention to guide your year? We want to know!

What will you “make room” for in 2024?

STAFF

Our staff began the new year making room for rest, with vacation time and holidays amidst the busy season, and now we’re all back in action making room for new guests, volunteers, and hope for the year ahead.

CAMPUS

On our campus we are making room for reflection and remembrance with the annual ritual of adding stars to our guest memorial wall honoring those guests who have died in the previous year. We also added a memorial installation to honor Father Charles Strobel, founder of Room in the Inn (Nashville).

GUESTS

RITI guests are making room for their next steps. As we shared at the end of last year, over 200 guests moved from homelessness to permanent housing in 2023. That was more than double the number we were able to assist in 2022! Your donation makes that tremendous growth possible.

Our food services staff is making room in the freezer for ready-to-heat meals in the event of inclement weather so our staff can keep things rolling as winter weather approaches. Donate bottled water (individual bottles and gallon jugs) to help us be ready in the event of a boil-water-order.

VOLUNTEERS

RITI volunteers on campus are making room for joy and creativity as they bring activities and listening ears to warm the slow, cold winter days.

HOSTS

RITI host congregations are making room for a few extra guests on the coldest nights and room for more children than we ever expected in need of emergency shelter. As winter weather approaches, RITI’s limited capacity becomes even more heartbreaking.

Will you help us add more shelter spaces by mobilizing your faith community or gathering a few friends to host a small group of guests at one of our available locations this winter? Find out more here.

This year, we’ll spend a little time each month sharing some way RITI makes room in Memphis. We’d love for you to join us.

Share how you’ll make room with RITI this year by responding to our emails, posts, and stories. @ritimemphis #makeroom901
