Celebrating Interns

May 18, 2020

Congratulations to our RITI Interns on their graduations!

Celeste Rivers, MSW
Celeste graduated from Union University’s School of Social Work on May 16, 2020. Celeste interned with RITI-Memphis for four semesters as the field placement for her studies. She came to us with a passion for the work and our guests and a desire to begin her own shelter program.

This faith-based non-profit organization is a compassionate ministry that goes over and beyond to meet the essential needs of homeless men, women and children in Shelby County. During this internship, I was provided with a platform to facilitate anger management and self-esteem groups, enhance case management and active listening skills and countless opportunities to connect with community resources through collaboration with agencies and faith-based organizations… I will perpetually serve in the capacity as a volunteer. – Celeste Rivers

Anna Browning
Anna graduated from Rhodes College on May 16, 2020. Anna interned with RITI for two semesters during her senior year, exploring her interest in Public Health.

By interning at the day center I had the privilege of getting to know most of the guests very well. After a few weeks of organizing the clothes closet, helping to clean and mostly just getting to know people I was able to do more to help out including signing people in every day. This strengthened my connections and friendships with the guests because I was on a first-name basis with most people which made the work even more impactful. Through Room in the Inn, I learned so much about Memphis, privilege, the power of humanity, and myself. I can honestly say that working at Room in the Inn has changed me and changed the direction of my life goals. – Anna Browning
Congratulations, Celeste and Anna!
